European Researchers’ Night, Science week, Science Fest and Pint of Science
The members of PSCI take part in annual activities that bring science closer to society. They have participated in the Barcelona Science Festival (Spring), the European Researchers’ Night (last weekend of September), and the Science Week. There, they run science workshops for children, storytelling sessions, and talks, with the support of the ICMAB-CSIC outreach team.
Science week in Barcelona Anna Crespi and Daniel Martín-Jiménez November 15, 2025 As part of the LAB TOUR 2026 project, researchers from ICMAB-CSIC organized a new event during Science Week, where researchers Anna Crespi and Daniel Martín gave a talk on the pigments used in Romanesque art at Casa de Soria in Barcelona. The event gathered roughly 100 people, including members of the House and external public. The talk — blending history, society and science — used Romanesque pigments as a guiding thread to explore the connections between Soria and Barcelona.
The European Researchers’ Night in Soria Stefania Sandoval, Judith Oró and Daniel Martín-Jiménez September 26, 2025 As part of the LAB TOUR project, researchers from ICMAB-CSIC travelled to Soria to celebrate, for the first time, the European Researchers’ Night in the city. At the ‘Casino Círculo Amistad Numancia’, they presented the LAB TOUR 2026 project, delivered a talk on nanotechnology, and offered workshops for children and young audiences on electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and optical and electronic microscopy.
Festa de la Ciència/ Science Fest in Barcelona Daniel Martín-Jiménez June 9, 2024 Daniel Martín Jiménez took part in an event at El Born in Barcelona, where he performed a storytelling session about Fray Tomás and led hands-on activities exploring biological materials and their colours.
The European Researchers’ Night in Barcelona Daniel Martín-Jiménez and Rosa L. Zaffino September 29, 2023 Daniel Martín Jiménez (PCSI group) and Rosa L. Zaffino (FunNanoSurf), both from ICMAB-CSIC, organized a scientific workshop at the Science Night of Catalonia at CosmoCaixa. They rescued from the past the historical character of Fray Tomás de Berlanga, a monk whose life was devoted to Christian faith and science. Children from 3 to 5 years learned about animals, fruits and colors as part of an educational and Nature care activity.
Pint of Science in Barcelona Ana Pérez and Esther Barrena May 16, 2017 On May 16th, PCSI members and ICMAB researchers Esther Barrena and Ana Pérez gave two talks at Michael Collins bar. Esther presented “Planilandia: un LEGO en dos dimensiones”, introducing graphene and other 2D materials. Ana delivered “Ver y tocar átomos y moléculas”, explaining how scanning microscopy allows us to visualize matter at the nanoscale.
